Phuket trip

Went to Phuket in end of April. Brought Pentax K-x with kit lens 18-55mm and sigma 55-200mm. Most of the time took picture using Av mode in RAW, with 11 points AF mode and multi-segment metering, some of the pictures were under/over exposed, and not sharp.

first time taking indoor picture, taken with build in flash and high ISO
taken outdoor at night with build in flash

underexposed image, this was taken during sunrise, I got condensation on my lens when I left the cold hotel room
this was taken during sunset at kata beach
another multi segment metering problem when encounter backlight

Post processed in Lightroom 2.

Understanding Exposure

After searching for information on photography books, I decided to buy this book. I bought it from opentrolley online book store for S$ 38.

The book described what is exposure, photographic triangle (aperture, shutter speed, and sensitivity) and the effects on exposure. It mentioned about the differences between correct exposure and creative exposure, and why people still want to read the book while the camera has already provided them with "correct" exposure in P mode. The book also described about frontlight, backlight and sidelight. A lot of techniques that are useful for photographers are also mentioned here, such as 18% reflectance and grey card, blue sky brothers and mr green jeans, panning, and few filters that are commonly used by photographers. Overall it was enjoyable book to read.

Sigma 55-200mm f4-5.6

This was my first lens that I bought after the kit lens. I felt regret that I didn't buy the dual kit lens at that time, so I bought this second hand lens. It came with with hood, box, and in very mint condition. Brought this lens during Phuket trip in April but in the end only took few photos using the lens.

took this on the naithon beach in the morning, just after the sunrise
After a few months sitting inside dry cabinet, I brought this lens for a walk at botanical garden. Here are some shots taken using this lens, with the help of monopod :

I can tell that this lens is sharp and overall I'm happy with it. But I need a longer reach, so I sold the lens and bought 70-300mm.

Quite impressed by the IQ of the kit lens.

Let there be light

Few months ago I bought my first DSLR. It's Pentax K-x with 18-55mm kit lens, bought from a shop at Funan DigitaLife Mall for S$ 782. I want to feel again the joy of taking photo that I felt 12 years ago. That's my first experience with a camera. I went to safari park and took picture of animals there using a film camera that I got from KFC Chuckie meal. I still remember the camera's shape, it's a yellow taxi with chicken mascot sticker. I finished a roll of Fujifilm and was very curious to see the result. But finally I could smile when I saw the photos.
